Title: “Mr. Peter’s Son”

            One day, Mr. Peter had a real scare because of one of his children, his son Claudio, specifically. Claudio was an innocent twelve-year-old, while Mr. Peter was a fifty-year-old sea dog. The boy tenderly told him he was going to quit school. Mr. Peter took it in stride and decided to turn the tables:

“No problem,” said Mr. Peter. “But you’ll be going to boarding school, you can’t just stay here doing nothing.”

The boy thought it over.

“I don’t mind.” said Claudio.

“Well, pack your things in a bag, and on Saturday we’ll go see Mr. Julián to get you admitted.”

It was Wednesday, and it felt like Saturday would never arrive. Meanwhile, the young boy was saying goodbye to his mother and sister. They advised him not to do anything reckless and to study, the important thing was to finish school and then do something he enjoyed. School is something everyone has to go through; after that, everyone finds their own path in life.

Saturday arrived. Around ten in the morning, Mr. Peter, his wife, Claudio, and his sister set off in their family car toward the boarding school. Claudio was quiet; he didn’t say a word. He was deep in thought. They arrived at a parking lot and parked the car.

“I’m going to speak with Mr. Julián now; you get your bag ready.”

Mr. Peter stepped out of the car looking serious, once he rounded the corner of the vehicle and was out of sight, he ducked into the first bar he saw. A waiter served him:

“I’ll have a beer and a cheese platter.”

Mr. Peter savored the beer and cheese as if he were a child, the beer went down as easily as water. When he finished, he paid the bill and left the bar. He returned to the car with a serious expression and told Claudio:

“It’s all settled with Mr. Julián: you’re staying on as a boarder. They’ll let us know when we can come visit you.”

“Dad, I’m going to study, I don’t want to go to boarding school anymore.”

“Well, are you sure?”

“Yes, Dad.”

“All right, tomorrow I’ll tell Mr. Julián you’ve changed your mind. Today we’re going to the beach; it is Saturday, after all. How does that sound?”

Mr. Peter’s two children were delighted at the idea of ​​going to the beach; for Claudio, it felt like a weight had been lifted from his back. Meanwhile, Mr. Peter had shown that being a seasoned sailor requires cunning and resilience in the face of adversity. His son learned a valuable lesson and decided to study and build a future for himself.
