Title: “The burgers and the 50 euros”
Author: Francisco Morales Domínguez.
In this life there are two types of people: those who
command and those who obey. My mother was the one who commanded at home,
although sometimes she did it wrong, however, you had to obey what she said.
She told me to buy some burgers for lunch and gave me 50 euros.
“I want the change,” she said.
“Can I buy a lottery ticket?” I asked.
“You can do whatever you want with your money, but I
want the change.”
I had a couple of euros, so, without further delay,
like a good boy, I went to do my errands. I left home in November with a
searing sun, I was wearing a swimsuit and a T-shirt. The swimsuit was a pair of
shorts. I went to the burger place and ordered the food. As to not wait like a
fool, I went to buy the lottery ticket. I had a good reason: there was a
succulent jackpot. When I went to the tobacconist, I put my hand in my pocket
and I had 50 euros. I bought the lottery ticket in hope of getting out of
poverty. Halfway between the burger place and the tobacconist, I put my hand in
my pocket again and I got a big surprise: where are the 50 euros? Alarmed, I
put my hand in again, but I only have the lottery ticket. My God! What now?
What do I say to my mother? The main thing at the moment was to act smartly and
not lose my temper, so I retraced my steps. I saw people walking, going up and
down. However, I did not give up on my mission, I walked like a secret agent in
search of a fortune, of a sign that destiny would give me. I looked at every
corner as I walked up the street on the way to the tobacconist. Suddenly, I saw
a brown piece of paper on the ground. It was about to hit the road, so I ran
excitedly, bent down and got the pleasant surprise that it was the 50 euros.
Eureka! I couldn’t believe it. I was saved from the scolding my mother was
going to give me. It was a lucky day within bad luck. Along this line, I bought
a scratch card at the tobacconist’s, but I didn’t get anything out of it, just
the 10 euros from the scratch card. I got rid of the 50 euros in case I lost
them again. This time, when I came back home, I kept it in my hand. I went to
the burger shop and, more relieved, I paid for the burgers. I headed home with
the fright in my body still. When I got home, I told my mother about it
nervously.
"Oh, my boy, sending you to do some errands is
always an adventure. You could now scratch the card with your mother."
Well, at least the woman didn’t take it badly. I ate
the burger, and the day tasted like one of thousands of anecdotes. It could
have been worse, but I was able to think calmly and be intelligent. Regarding
the lottery, someone won the jackpot and, as always, I only took the money out
of my pocket.
The end.
