El hijo de Don Peter en Inglés. Autor: Francisco Morales

Title: “Mr. Peter’s Son”

Author: Francisco Morales Domínguez.

One day, Mr. Peter had a real scare because of one of his children, his son Claudio, specifically. Claudio was an innocent twelve-year-old, while Mr. Peter was a fifty-year-old sea dog. The boy tenderly told him he was going to quit school. Mr. Peter took it in stride and decided to turn the tables:

“No problem,” said Mr. Peter. “But you’ll be going to boarding school, you can’t just stay here doing nothing.”

The boy thought it over.

“I don’t mind.” said Claudio.

“Well, pack your things in a bag, and on Saturday we’ll go see Mr. Julián to get you admitted.”

It was Wednesday, and it felt like Saturday would never arrive. Meanwhile, the young boy was saying goodbye to his mother and sister. They advised him not to do anything reckless and to study, the important thing was to finish school and then do something he enjoyed. School is something everyone has to go through; after that, everyone finds their own path in life.

Saturday arrived. Around ten in the morning, Mr. Peter, his wife, Claudio, and his sister set off in their family car toward the boarding school. Claudio was quiet; he didn’t say a word. He was deep in thought. They arrived at a parking lot and parked the car.

“I’m going to speak with Mr. Julián now; you get your bag ready.”

Mr. Peter stepped out of the car looking serious, once he rounded the corner of the vehicle and was out of sight, he ducked into the first bar he saw. A waiter served him:

“I’ll have a beer and a cheese platter.”

Mr. Peter savored the beer and cheese as if he were a child, the beer went down as easily as water. When he finished, he paid the bill and left the bar. He returned to the car with a serious expression and told Claudio:

“It’s all settled with Mr. Julián: you’re staying on as a boarder. They’ll let us know when we can come visit you.”

“Dad, I’m going to study, I don’t want to go to boarding school anymore.”

“Well, are you sure?”

“Yes, Dad.”

“All right, tomorrow I’ll tell Mr. Julián you’ve changed your mind. Today we’re going to the beach; it is Saturday, after all. How does that sound?”

Mr. Peter’s two children were delighted at the idea of going to the beach; for Claudio, it felt like a weight had been lifted from his back. Meanwhile, Mr. Peter had shown that being a seasoned sailor requires cunning and resilience in the face of adversity. His son learned a valuable lesson and decided to study and build a future for himself.

No sé qué estás planeando

Entonces elige bien tus sentimientos

pues yo siempre presiento

que el amor verdadero

es lo que busco y lo que siento.

"La llamada" en inglés.

 Title: “The Call”

Author: Francisco Morales Domínguez

When fate deals you a cruel blow, remember that life is a game of dice: the more prepared you are, the better your roll. My name is Carlos Pérez, and I work as an office clerk. One day, I was at the office, like every other day, when my cell phone started vibrating. I answered it, intrigued. On the other end, they asked for my name. I confirmed my identity, puzzled. They told me I was being called from the bank, that I had a debt of 3,000 euros and had to pay it immediately with my card. I replied that I had another very important call on the line and asked them to call me back in ten minutes. At first, they seemed reluctant to call me back, but they agreed when I told them it was my mother, who was in the hospital. As soon as I hung up, I called my bank and asked if I had a debt of 3,000 euros, and they denied it. I told them what happened, and they warned me to be careful of scams and to cancel my card in case they were planning to defraud me.

Ten minutes passed, and I didn’t receive a call. They realized I hadn’t fallen for the scam and decided not to call in case I had alerted the police. For once, my mother telling me that one of her cousins had fallen for one of these scams was helpful in preventing me from falling for it myself. For once, going to see my mother hadn’t been a waste of time, and receiving her affection was a great comfort.

"Me tomaron por sueco" de Francisco Morales en inglés.

Title: “They thought I was Swedish.”

Marcus Gebler, a Swedish fishing enthusiast and a keen eater, traveled to Tenerife, as he had done before. He was staying in the coastal town of El Médano, his favorite spot on the island where the breeze blows freely. At dinner time, Marcus went with his wife to a beautiful restaurant. They noticed the menu didn’t have prices, but that didn’t stop them from enjoying a fresh “vieja” fish with wrinkly potatoes and green mojo sauce. When they saw the bill, Marcus was shocked: the “vieja” was very expensive. Marcus told the waiter to call the manager. The waiter did as Marcus asked angrily. Marcus took advantage of the waiter’s departure and pay with his credit card at the POS terminal what he thought the “vieja” was really worth of and left. The next day, they notified the owner of the incident, who decided to go to the police station, as he had Marcus’s card details, and planned to report him to the police. When the owner arrived at the police station, he told a police officer what he knew about the case, and the officer advised him not to file a complaint, as he was likely to lose. He would lose the case and have to pay for the Swedish’s trip to El Médano.

“But why?” the owner wondered.

“Because by law you must put the price of the fish on the menu. Why didn’t you?” the police officer asked.

“Because it’s fresh fish, and I don’t know the price.”

“Consider yourself paid. At least he paid you, because if he had wanted to, he would have walked away without paying.”

The owner felt defeated, but he learned his lesson: the menu is a law that no one should break, and no one should be above the law.

Las hamburguesas y los 50 euros al inglés.

Title: “The burgers and the 50 euros”

Author: Francisco Morales Domínguez.

In this life there are two types of people: those who command and those who obey. My mother was the one who commanded at home, although sometimes she did it wrong, however, you had to obey what she said. She told me to buy some burgers for lunch and gave me 50 euros.

“I want the change,” she said.

“Can I buy a lottery ticket?” I asked.

“You can do whatever you want with your money, but I want the change.”

I had a couple of euros, so, without further delay, like a good boy, I went to do my errands. I left home in November with a searing sun, I was wearing a swimsuit and a T-shirt. The swimsuit was a pair of shorts. I went to the burger place and ordered the food. As to not wait like a fool, I went to buy the lottery ticket. I had a good reason: there was a succulent jackpot. When I went to the tobacconist, I put my hand in my pocket and I had 50 euros. I bought the lottery ticket in hope of getting out of poverty. Halfway between the burger place and the tobacconist, I put my hand in my pocket again and I got a big surprise: where are the 50 euros? Alarmed, I put my hand in again, but I only have the lottery ticket. My God! What now? What do I say to my mother? The main thing at the moment was to act smartly and not lose my temper, so I retraced my steps. I saw people walking, going up and down. However, I did not give up on my mission, I walked like a secret agent in search of a fortune, of a sign that destiny would give me. I looked at every corner as I walked up the street on the way to the tobacconist. Suddenly, I saw a brown piece of paper on the ground. It was about to hit the road, so I ran excitedly, bent down and got the pleasant surprise that it was the 50 euros. Eureka! I couldn’t believe it. I was saved from the scolding my mother was going to give me. It was a lucky day within bad luck. Along this line, I bought a scratch card at the tobacconist’s, but I didn’t get anything out of it, just the 10 euros from the scratch card. I got rid of the 50 euros in case I lost them again. This time, when I came back home, I kept it in my hand. I went to the burger shop and, more relieved, I paid for the burgers. I headed home with the fright in my body still. When I got home, I told my mother about it nervously.

"Oh, my boy, sending you to do some errands is always an adventure. You could now scratch the card with your mother."

Well, at least the woman didn’t take it badly. I ate the burger, and the day tasted like one of thousands of anecdotes. It could have been worse, but I was able to think calmly and be intelligent. Regarding the lottery, someone won the jackpot and, as always, I only took the money out of my pocket.

Title:"The Scratch card and my mother".

Title: “The scratch card and my mother”.

This morning I wake up with my leg less sore. I go to the ONCE kiosk to collect yesterday’s coupon and the Triplex; in total, nine euros. I buy a millionaire scratch card: a new one, for five euros; with the four leftover euros, I have breakfast.

I return home wanting to play the new 10-euro megas; I mention it to my mother.

My mother says: “Well, go to the bank, take out money and buy the scratch cards.” With my good fortune, I got 40. My mother got nothing. She gave me half so I buy the Euromillon from the club; with the other 20 euros, I go to another kiosk to buy, but they didn’t have any. Doesn’t matter, I go a few meters further, where there is another kiosk where I never win anything, and I buy two new megas of 10 consecutive euros.

I come home anxious, with a sore leg, and I scratch my card. Nothing! My mother comes and scratches hers and says: “I can’t believe it: 1,000 euros!”. With skepticism, I check it out and yes, she had number 2: 1000 euros. I jump with joy, like my mother, because, since we play halfway, 500 are for me.

I was already dreaming about buying a laptop and even a quick trip to Gran Canaria to see my friend Juani. I was happier than a child on the Three Wise Men Day.

I go to the ONCE kiosk and tell the kiosk owner what happened. The boy is happy for me and tells me that I must collect it at La Caixa. Doesn’t matter, like a champion, I return home, thinking that my sister has an account at La Caixa and that we will collect it later.

When I get home, my mother gives me the bad news: “Look, I didn’t scratch well, and it wasn’t a 2 but a 27.”

I couldn’t believe it. Goodbye to the laptop and the quick trip to see Juani, who I fancy.

My mother laughed and, to console me, gave me 20 euros, and I returned to the kiosk for another two new megas.

We won 20 euros and I decided to play it in the Euromillion, since there is a jackpot of 130 million. Who knows, maybe I have better luck and seduce Juani. That would be my real lottery!

Title"Subcontracted crime"

Title: "Subcontracted Crime."

Along the return to Villa Martínez of Carlos Pimentel, the residents of Madrid were threatened. Carlos Pimentel was disinherited from a noble family of the city, whose lights had turned him into a white-collar criminal. Carlos was attractive, he was 35 years old and had the manners of a gallant, that was the real fear among the wealthy neighbors; for their daughters to fall into Carlos’ trap and be changed forever, completely different from the innocent girls they were while growing up. For Carlos, in the low and in the upper neighborhoods the same crap was cooked, the same fish, whether it was cod or sardines. After all, what he wanted was a life based on hedonism, and suffering was not in his vocabulary.

Siberio Almenara, a wealthy landowner, had an unfinished business with Carlos Pimentel, that is, he decided to hire a hit man with a questionable job who would not hesitate to give little Carlos a trip for a good sum. There was any problem, one hundred thousand euros were sent in a bag to Ginés Trujillo. Ginés had a lot of work, so he subcontracted Adolfo Martinón, a well-known opportunist of the banking world, who had no choice but to exploit what he was taught in the military to pay for the luxuries of Eastern European women. They offered him half and Adolfo, faced with a trip he had planned to Romania and the need for capital, decided to accept and subcontract the services of Roberto García, alias “El Cangrejo”, “The crab” in English. “El Cangrejo” worked at a hospital, he was a nurse who supplied the elderly, upon payment, with a sedative that made them pass away. The amount was around five thousand euros and “El Cangrejo”, faced with the debt he had with the gold visa, did not hesitate to accept and later subcontract Rodolfo Ordóñez, a surfer who was hooked on trankimacin and had a hammock stand on the beach.

Roberto García stole the medicines from the hospital, so the business was closed. Rodolfo picked up a sports newspaper from Monday and stood at Carlos’ door. When Carlos, after a weekend of drunkenness and bad life girls, saw the newspaper, he was intrigued. He read the headlines and got a terrible impression. His blood was boiling while he read said cover, until he collapsed from a heart attack. When the police came, they found nothing, it was simply a heart failure. Detective Galdós was curious and read the newspaper headline: “Tenerife football club goes up to first”, then he read in fine print: “The Real Madrid will play again on the last day”. With that information, he opened Carlos’ wallet and verified he was a member of Real Madrid. Galdós smiled and told his assistant: “Carmelo, there are those who don’t forget.”

My sadness

Title: "My sadness".

Autor: Francisco Morales Domínguez.

We met when we were both unemployed, at that point my sadness disappeared. After that, he seemed so in love that I couldn't believe his feelings for me. We lived on a ferris wheel of happinnes, furthermore, we both got a job very quickly. I believed in him blindly as if I was an innocent girl. We went on vacation to a very long trip and it felt like a dream. We enjoyed our own paradise, it seemed that we had very little time to life. Consequently, we took a sick leave. I was as happy as a bird in its nest, however, he met another girl and broke up with me. He had no mercy on my pleas so I went back to work, but the company was displeased with me and they fired me. Although I returned to my sadness, feeling my loneliness while I was an unemployed girl, now I don't know what awaits for me anymore.

I am a traveler.
My journey started when I came to this land.
I met many passengers here.
They are my family and friends and some unknowns.
I saw the beauty of the nature.
I have seen rain
and wipe my eyes.
I saw the darkness of life,
but moon was with me as my belief.
The stars were shining.
They gave me some shine  so I can walk on my way.
I can finally see the bright sun,
but I kee walking to complete my
journey.
